The second mystery takes place while Jennie and her family are vacationing on Lake Ontario. Luckily for Sam, McIver likes dogs more than he likes people. Sam becomes convinced that a spooky house owned by a man named McIver is haunted, and they discover the root of the unusual happenings at his home. ![]() Jennie's friend Beth joins them, and the excitement begins. A partnership is formed, and Jennie discovers that she can hear Sam's thoughts in her head. The pup mopes around the house until a neighbor, 10-year-old Jennie Levinsky, is hired to walk her. Proudie has an uncanny adventure on a rainy late night involving mysterious visitors and his tenant who is a doctor. This is a typical ghost story for the time period. This is mainly the story of another miserable couple who come to a horrible end, with a bit of the supernatural thrown in almost as an afterthought. A mystery involving a woman's name that was etched in an ancient pane of glass. Another unpleasant couple in an unpleasant marriage. ![]() A really excellent set up for a story about some truly miserable people who are visited by an unexpected housekeeper. Nothing is too spooky or unexpected, but it is nicely done. ![]() While there aren't any surprises the story has an interesting concept. For Claude, a clerk, The Reign of Terror has become background noise, or has it? Claude starts to have nightmares he believes are sent by his murdered paramour. ![]() The story takes place during the French Revolution. Her style evokes particular times and places with an economy of words, which is the mark of a good short story teller. ![]() Bowen's atmospheric writing style makes this compilation worth checking out. ![]() ![]() His creations continue to haunt us and define the genre of horror. I did enjoy the pranks in this story, which I’m usually highly critical about but of the three pranks I enjoyed them all and thought they added to the story. I did like the brother and sister relationship and wanted to see more of it. This story feature the first divorced parents in a Goosebumps story. I did not like any of the side characters. The is one of the weakest for a Goosebumps book. The hot and cold of the locations work well for the story, as they show the extremes of both sides of temperature. This book takes place in Pasadena, California and Alaska. The only scary moments are when the kids get lost in a whiteout in Alaska with no shelter. ![]() The Abominable Snowman did nothing for me it really wasn’t scary at all, and was barely in the story. ![]() This book has one good idea and it is not the Abominable Snowman but a strange mysterious snow with some magic powers to freeze and make more snow.
